Google Adwords has become one of the most effective ways to advertise your business online. If done right, it can be an extremely cost-effective strategy, and if done wrong, can cost you thousands.
Organic Rankings vs Paid Rankings
When running a Google search, normally the first few results are what we call paid rankings, these can be identified by the small block that tells you it’s an ad. This is Google’s paid advertising service known as Adwords. Companies pay to get their ad shown to users who are searching for a similar business and they get charged each time a user clicks on the link, this is known as pay-per-click and is a massive revenue stream for Google.
Google decides the amount charged per click by the number of other companies competing for the same term. It can be quite challenging competing with larger companies that have a much bigger budget but with the right strategy, you can do it. Google may still place your site above higher paying websites if you add more value to the searcher.
The ‘real’ search results that appear below the ads are called organic search results. These are golden because they’re natural rankings that are there because Google believes they are best suited for that particular search result. No amount of money can be paid to get your website here. Search Engine Optimization is the only way to work towards getting listed naturally on search results and the process can take a few months but well worth it in the long run.
